Electronic products are all around us. Printers are one such product that is used frequently in home, company, industry, etc. They are commercial product to make hard copies of documents, images and many more. A printer usually prints the content (2D content) on a paper. With the technological development we now have commercial 3D printer which print 3D objects. .i.e the 3D printer builds the physical content with special materials(like plastics) instead of inks which are used in traditional printers.
3D printers are printers which are used for make or produce 3D objects by inputting the digital content of the 3D object to the 3D printer. The material used for printing depends on the company manufacturing the printers. Usually they use special form of thermoplastics, rubbers, bio-compatible photo-polymers etc. The 3D printer actually produces the 3D object or model by adding the raw material(e.g. thermoplastic) layer by layer from bottom to top to produce the final object. This is an additive process where the raw material used for printing is continuously added in the process of printing to build the final model or object.
There is also another printing method, subtractive process which is less efficient due to wastage of raw material. In subtractive process a block of object is itched to make the 3D model.
Process of 3D Printing
- Create a 3D object in computer using CAD, Google SketchUp etc
- Save the content as file
- Input that output file to 3D printer to get the 3D model
Advantages and Uses
- Prints almost an real world 3D model
- Color print support with high-end 3D printers
- Strong printed model based on the raw material used for printing
3D printers available from $400 USD upto $2000 USD. However cheap 3D printer doesn’t print with high quality. You can check out www.amazon.com to know about the price and features of 3D printer.
